By Victor Papanek
For us at the academy it is one of the corner stone books, and we definitely recommend any one trying to understand what Design should be, to start by reading this book. In this book Victor Papanek demonstrates the potential of design to combat pollution, overpopulation, hunger, and other contemporary challenges. He steers us away from creating "fetish objects" for an extravagant society and toward a new era of ethically and environmentally conscious design. Translated into more than twenty languages since its initial publication in 1971, it has become the most widely read book on design globally and is considered a fundamental text in numerous design and architectural schools.
